Definition
Individuals who have completed their military service and are being separated from the military under conditions other than honorable due to conduct and performance that represents a serious departure from that expected of a service member, e.g., abuse of authority, misconduct that endangers other members of the military, use of deliberate force to hurt another person. Also included are service members who have received a bad conduct discharge or a dishonorable discharge as a result of a court martial. Individuals with bad conduct or dishonorable discharges are not eligible for veteran benefits. Those with OTH discharges probably are not eligible but their situations will be reviewed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
