Definition
Programs that specialize in providing therapeutic interventions that are based upon the theories of Ida Rolf which hold that the lack of appropriate skeletal alignment causes the individual to react inappropriately to gravity. The energy involved in compensating for the lack of a healthy response to gravitational forces is then not available to the individual for everyday tasks. The task of the therapist is to realign the muscles and stretch the intermuscle tissue so that the body is properly aligned to the forces of gravity.
