Definition
Programs that install and monitor the use of an ignition interlock device in vehicles driven by individuals convicted of repeated DUI violations and given the option by the court of using the device for a specified period of time (generally one year) in lieu of or in addition to other sanctions. The device prevents operation of the vehicle until the driver passes a breath alcohol test using an analyzer connected to the vehicle's ignition system.
