Definition
Programs that offer workshops or other forms of training or support which help participants develop effective delegation skills that allow them to share the organization's workload while developing and motivating staff. Topics may include becoming comfortable with delegation and the accompanying loss of control; understanding the difference between delegating and dumping; deciding what should be delegated and to whom; assessing the individual's ability to assume the responsibility and potential training needs; anticipating potential problems; defining the task and the reason it is being delegated; communicating expectations; identifying and supplying necessary resources; establishing timelines; monitoring progress; providing support while the task is being accomplished; and providing feedback when the task is complete.
