Definition
Programs that offer workshops or other forms of training or support which teach participants to make effective presentations. Topics may include planning the presentation, formulating objectives, identifying the audience, choosing a structure for the speech, choosing and effectively utilizing visual aids, working from an outline to improve spontaneity, opening the speech with an impact, closing the speech with a final, culminating idea and evaluating one's overall performance. Special tips may be provided for getting and keeping the attention of the audience; creating rapport; presenting oneself effectively (e.g., eye contact, voice, facial expressions, appearance and stance); and using proven techniques such as repetition, special emphasis on key points, and effective use of verbal images, humor and stories that instruct and convey a message. Behaviors to avoid may also be addressed.
