International Children's Rights

Definition
Programs that are committed to safeguarding the basic human rights of children in countries throughout the world. According to the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, these rights include their right to life, survival and personal development; the right to a name, a nationality, and parental protection and care from birth; the right to express themselves and have their opinion heard; the right to protection from physical or mental abuse and neglect including sexual abuse and exploitation; the right to protection from economic exploitation and from work that may be harmful to their health and well-being; the right to protection from abduction and the trafficking in children; the right to education and quality health care; the right to time for rest, play and access to cultural and artistic activities; and the right to equal opportunities irrespective of the child's or his/her parent's race, color, gender, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin, property, disability or other status.
