Definition
The principle judicial organ of the United Nations located in The Hague (Netherlands) whose purpose is to settle legal disputes submitted to it by member States in situations where the States have accepted the Court's jurisdiction and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by the General Assembly, the Security Council or other organs of the United Nations and specialized agencies authorized by the General Assembly.
