Definition
An independent agency reporting directly to the President that is responsible for coordinating the nation's intelligence activities and correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence that affects the security of the United States. The mission of the CIA is to provide accurate, comprehensive, and timely foreign intelligence on national security topics and to conduct counterintelligence activities, special activities, and other functions related to foreign intelligence and national security, as directed by the President. Issues of concern to the CIA include nonproliferation, counterterrorism, counterintelligence, international organized crime and narcotics trafficking and arms control intelligence.
