Definition
Organizations that regulate, coordinate and promote intercollegiate athletic programs among the public and private colleges and universities that are their members. College/university athletic associations encourage member institutions to adopt eligibility rules to comply with satisfactory standards of scholarship, sportsmanship and amateurism; adopt rules which govern the play of individual sports; supervise the conduct of in-season sectional, regional, conference and national athletic events; organize and operate post-season playoffs and championships; compile statistics for regular season and post-season competition; sponsor officiating clinics for individual sports; select and assign officials to those sports; strive to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the educational program; and promote good sportsmanship and scholastic achievement in student athletes
