Definition
Programs that assist aliens in submitting a request to be included in the annual diversity visa lottery. The lottery is administered by the U.S. Department of State and randomly chooses a limited number aliens, their spouses and unmarried children younger than age 21, from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States and gives them an opportunity to apply for permanence resident status. A maximum of 55,000 visas per year are allotted for this category.
