Programs that send inspectors to conduct tests which measure the level of carbon monoxide in the air and notify the homeowner if levels are excessive. Likely sources of carbon monoxide (a colorless, odorless, tasteless and toxic gas produced as a by-product of combustion) include fuel furnaces, gas water heaters, fireplaces, woodstoves, unvented kerosene and gas space heaters, gas dryers, charcoal grills, yard maintenance equipment and exhaust from automobile or other vehicles in attached garages.
