Definition
Programs that test the integrity of fuel storage tanks including the liquid portion of the tank, the vapor space above the tank and associated piping systems to ascertain whether there are leaks and determine whether the tanks need to be retrofitted or replaced, or, if no longer required, properly abandoned. Tests may also be conducted to determine whether soil or water contamination has occurred. Tank testing methods vary in risk to the tank, cost, invasiveness and length of time to complete. Approved methods include precision testing/tightness testing and volumetric analysis.
