Definition
Programs that conduct laboratory tests which measure the chemical content of an individual's blood as a means of assessing the individual's general health status. Blood chemistry panels may be offered in the context of a general physical examination, and indicate total cholesterol, glucose, HDL, LDL, VLDL, BUN, creatine, uric acid, total protein, albumin, albumin/gobulin ratio, total bilirubin, alkaline, phosphatase, GGT, AST, ALT, LD, total iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, chloride, carbon dioxide, amylase, and triglycerides, as well as indicators of liver, kidney and heart function. Laboratory reports generally indicate the normal range for each variable and highlight any test results that fall outside that range.
