Bleeding Control Training

Programs that provide training that teaches participants to recognize life-threatening bleeding in someone who is injured and effectively assist that person, possibly saving a life. Trainees learn how to determine if the area is safe to proceed toward a victim to provide assistance as well as bleeding control methods including techniques for applying pressure with both hands once the source of the bleeding has been identified; applying firm, steady pressure at the bleeding site with dressings and clothing; packing a wound with cloth or gauze to control bleeding; and if the bleeding doesn't stop, correctly applying a tourniquet to an injured limb 2-3 inches closer to the torso. A second tourniquet can be applied closer to the torso if the bleeding still doesn't stop.
