Definition
Programs that assist women to conceive children through an assisted reproductive technology procedure which involves ovarian stimulation and monitoring, harvesting ova from the woman, mixing eggs and viable sperm in a special catheter, and injecting the mixture into the fallopian tube(s) in the hope that fertilization and a healthy pregnancy will occur. This procedure is used in cases where the cause of infertility is unknown, is related to problems other than blocked fallopian tubes or in situations where conception outside the body is not an option.
