Definition
Programs that provide test kits that women can use in the privacy of their homes to determine if they are pregnant. The test kits measure the amount of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine. The hormone is produced by the developing placenta beginning on the day on which the embryo implants in the uterine wall. The results are either positive or negative for pregnancy, but do not provide information regarding the length of time the woman has been pregnant.
