Definition
Organizations that sponsor or otherwise enable people to participate in field trials in which dogs demonstrate the natural abilities that are associated with their breed or the skills they have learned in conjunction with the work they do. Included are field trials in which beagles, pointing breeds, retrievers, spaniels, basset hounds and dachshunds display their hunting abilities; herding tests and trials for dogs who work with sheep, goats, cattle, or other stock; competitions for sight hound breeds which test their agility, endurance and ability to follow a lure; competitions for small terriers and dachshunds which measure their ability to follow game to ground and work the quarry; and tracking events which test the ability of dogs to follow a scent over challenging terrain.
