Definition
Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in felting, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Felting is the art of subjecting different varieties of wool (usually un-spun wool) to moisture, heat and pressure to create felt, combining the felt with other materials such as silk and molding the felt into items of clothing, objects or art pieces such as wall hangings that have aesthetic patterns and textures. Activities may include lectures by people with felting expertise; demonstrations of different felt-making and felt utilization techniques; and regular meetings at which members share art objects, clothing and other felt-based creations, enjoy the company of other felting enthusiasts and have time to work on their projects. Some felting clubs may also provide space and materials for felting activities, sponsor exhibits or sales of felt work done by members, publish a newsletter or provide access to a library of resources on the craft. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.
