Definition
Companies that generate/produce electricity using coal, using solar power, wind power, fuel cells, hydroelectric power, landfill gas, digester gas, waste, dedicated energy crops available on a renewable basis or low-emission, nontoxic biomass based on solid organic fuels from wood, forest or field residues or other energy sources. Electric generation companies may also purchase energy on the wholesale market. The electricity is sold to customers by electric power suppliers, transmitted via high voltage wires and towers and delivered by an electric distribution company, usually the local electric utility, via a system of poles and wires that carry the electricity into the homes and businesses of customers.
