Definition
Programs that evaluate the content of movies and "coming attraction" trailers and assign ratings which provide advance information about the film's contents. The ratings systems are concerned with films that depict violence, sexual activity, drug use, or exploitation of children; or which contain coarse, strong or profane language or crude comments. Rating organizations may make a determination of the age ranges for which the film is most appropriate. Also included are programs that develop rating systems that are used for this purpose.
