Definition
Small but powerful boats that are designed to push or pull larger vessels such as ships or barges. Tugboats guide large oceangoing ships into and out of port and tow barges, dredging and salvage equipment and disabled vessels. They operate in harbors and inlets, along coastlines, over the open sea or through rivers and canals.
