Definition
Programs that help nonprofit organizations, small businesses and other groups make decisions about the architecture of their network, i.e., determine whether all of the workstations will have the same capabilities and responsibilities (peer-to-peer networks); whether some of the computers will be dedicated to serve others (become servers) in order to maximize performance when network traffic is heavy (client/server networks); or whether there is a single, very powerful server that handles all computing responsibilities for the network (mainframe network).
