Definition
Programs that help nonprofit organizations, small businesses and other groups add, change and delete information that appears on their websites, author pages, add images, create hyperlinks to other sites, provide downloadable files, archive outdated content, control levels of access to the site and generally manage the growth and development of their site. Included are programs that provide off-the-shelf website content management software, develop custom content management applications for a particular site and/or manage the content of organization websites on an outsourcing basis. Software features may include direct editing capabilities, font controls, table controls, hyperlinks controls, image editing, spell checking, modification approval (for situations in which multiple people are making changes), version control, backup and page change histories and website administration tools.
