Definition
Programs that help nonprofit organizations, small businesses and other groups select, install and effectively use software that allows for the efficient management of staff schedules. Features generally include the ability to develop a profile of staff (e.g., names, addresses, phone numbers, emergency contact information, rate of pay, seniority, daily and overtime availability); define shifts; identify staff who are eligible for a shift taking into account staff who are off sick, on vacation, on leave, unavailable on a certain day or inactive (e.g., on disability, maternity leave); assign staff to specific shifts; manage shift bidding; provide warnings regarding irregularities (e.g., employees who are scheduled for overtime hours, on vacation, on sick leave, scheduled for overlapping shifts); and produce a wide variety of reports (e.g., employee schedules, daily and weekly rosters, activity summaries, hourly coverage).
