Definition
A stage in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (usually a period of one to two years preceding death) which is characterized by anorexia; the inability to speak; hyperorality (the tendency to put inappropriate objects in the mouth); hyperactivity or hypoactivity; incontinence; the inability to recognize or learn; emotional flatness; seizures; and susceptibility to illness and infection.
