Definition
Ataxia that is caused by stroke, multiple sclerosis, tumors, alcoholism, peripheral neuropathy, metabolic disorders, vitamin deficiencies or other conditions that involve damage to the nervous system rather than being hereditary or occurring spontaneously in particular families. People with ataxia experience a failure of muscle control in their arms and legs, resulting in a lack of balance and coordination or a disturbance of gait.
