Profound Intellectual Disabilities

A clinical condition in which the individual's level of intellectual functioning is below the IQ level of 20. Individuals who have profound intellectual disabilities are incapable of caring for themselves. However, some can be trained to assist in their own feeding, toileting and basic care. Some individuals can be taught to indicate their needs by gesture, speech or other signaling system.
