Definition
A contagious infection that is characterized by fever blisters in the genital area which are accompanied by fever, and tenderness and swelling in the nearest lymph gland. Herpes is a latent virus that remains dormant in the body between active outbreaks which seem to be triggered by sunlight, trauma, emotional upset, the common cold, exposure to another person who has an active herpetic sore or the friction of sexual intercourse.
