Definition
A group of bacteria which cause a relatively mild form of gastrointestinal illness whose symptoms include fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea with or without bloody stool. The illness is transmitted by direct contact with an infected person or by ingesting food or water that has been contaminated by an infected person.
