Definition
Programs that pay for or provide mechanical devices that people can install to prevent burns from hot water. Included are thermostatic mixing valves installed near the water heater which mix hot and cold water together to deliver it at a safe temperature; and anti-scald devices installed on showerheads and faucets which limit the water flow to a trickle if it exceeds a maximum temperature. Scald protection devices have been installed in child care centers, hospitals, hotels and motels, and nursing facilities; and are recommended for homes with young children, older adults and people with disabilities.
