Definition
Medical examinations required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada under the terms of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act that requires all applicants for permanent residence or temporary residents who are staying more than six months to have a medical examination. These examinations are performed by designated medical practitioners within Canada and in other countries. The requirements are that the medical conditions of applicants and their dependents should not be a danger to public health or an excessive burden on the Canadian public health or social systems. The factors considered during the medical assessment include whether hospitalization or medical, social or institutional care are required and whether potential employability or productivity could be affected.
