Definition
Programs that conduct x-ray scans of the spleen following injection of a radioactive substance (usually labeled red cells) as a means of detecting abnormalities. The test is used to help diagnose an unknown mass in the upper left portion of the abdomen, to evaluate the size and functioning of the spleen and to detect spleen injuries.
