Definition
A program that provides supplementary nutrition in the form of milk for children in schools. In the U.S., this program is federally-funded and is available to income-eligible students who are enrolled in public and private, nonprofit schools of high school grades or lower, or in nonprofit nursery schools, child care centers, summer camps and similar organizations charged with the care and instruction of children. Participating agencies are reimbursed for the milk served. Also included are programs that provide milk for other targeted populations. e.g., adults with osteoporosis.
