Adherents of the religion and philosophy of China traditionally followed by Lao-tzu which originally taught conformity to the Tao by unassertive action and retirement from the world for a pristine simplicity, but which later became a highly eclectic religion greatly concerned with obtaining longevity and immortality, often by magical means.
