Definition
Programs that provide opportunities for people of all ages to visit locations where evidence of previous human activity has been found, preserved and made available to the public as historic or prehistoric archaeological sites. Artifacts including the ruins of dwellings and outbuildings, pottery shards, tools and other implements, painted or carved rock outcrops (pictographs and petroglyphs), monuments and inscriptions found and preserved at the sites provide the key to understanding the people who once lived, hunted, camped or were buried there. Guided or self-guided tours may be available.
