A group of diseases associated with 12 distinct viruses that are characterized by fever and muscle aches followed by respiratory problems, severe bleeding, kidney problems and shock (depending on the particular virus that was the source of the infection). The severity of viral hemorrhagic fever can range from a relatively mild illness to death.
