Definition
A disorder that is characterized by pain for which no organic cause can be found but which seems to involve psychological factors which influence its onset, severity, exacerbation or maintenance. The pain is not intentionally produced or feigned; is of sufficient severity that it causes significant impairment in social, occupational or other areas of functioning; and is either inconsistent with the anatomic distribution of the nervous system, or if it mimics a known disease entity, it cannot be adequately accounted for by organic pathology.
