Definition
A personality disorder that is characterized by hypersensitivity to potential rejection, humiliation or shame; an unwillingness to enter into relationships unless given unusually strong guarantees of uncritical acceptance; social withdrawal despite a desire for affection and acceptance; low self-esteem; distress regarding the inability to relate comfortably to others; and substantial impairments in personal, social or occupational functioning as a result of these characteristics.
