Definition
Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to ensure their own safety and that of others while operating a snowmobile. Snowmobile safety courses are required in some areas and focus on laws associated with driving a snowmobile (e.g., speed limits, alcohol consumption, equipment requirement, trail signs), night riding, ice crossings, responsibilities to other recreational users and the outdoor environment, maintenance and repair basics, and general safety tips (weather, appropriate dress, hidden obstacles, oncoming traffic, road and railway crossings, wildlife, unsafe ice). Most programs provide certificates for individuals who successfully complete the course.
