Definition
Organizations that offer mandatory or voluntary inspection programs which examine and adjust brakes, lighting equipment, steering mechanisms, signaling devices, horns, tires, mirrors, windshield glass/wipers, seat belts, the exhaust system and other equipment which relates to the safe operation of motor vehicles on public highways. Regulations governing the frequency, cost and other aspects of motor vehicle safety programs vary among states and some states have no mandatory programs.
