Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures people can take to ensure that their yards are safe, especially for children at play. Topics may include common safety hazards such as garden tools and chemicals, sports equipment, barbecues, adult sized garden furniture, fencing, hedges and other plants, exposed tree roots and other "trippers", poisonous insects and other backyard denizens, and pathways, steps and railings in disrepair; as well as suggestions for developing children's play areas and stocking them with outdoor play equipment and safe toys.
