Definition
A chronic communicable disease, also known as Hansen's Disease, that is characterized by lesions on the skin, upper respiratory tract and testes, and symmetrical involvement of peripheral nerves with anesthesia, muscle weakness and paralysis in its lepromatous form; and asymmetrical nerve lesions and skin anesthesia in the tuberculoid form. The lepromatous form is more contagious than the tuberculoid form.
