Definition
A condition to which elderly individuals are particularly susceptible in which the internal body temperature drops below normal, typically to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or below, during exposure to cold weather. Signs of hypothermia include unawareness of cold temperatures, uncontrollable shivering, confusion or drowsiness, slow or irregular heartbeat, slurred speech, shallow and slow breathing, a weak pulse, low blood pressure and lack of coordination or sluggishness.
