Definition
Programs that pay for or provide cloth masks which many jurisdictions have requested that people wear when out in public in situations where they might have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus but are asymptomatic and are not aware that they could transmit the virus to others. The purpose of the masks is to protect others they may meet from droplets associated with coughing, sneezing and speaking, especially in situations where social distancing might be difficult, e.g., in grocery stores or on public transportation and in other areas where there is a significant amount of community transmission. The masks should cover a person's face from the bridge of their nose to under their chin and should be loose fitting but still secure enough to stay in place. People are advised to make sure they can talk with their mask on and that it doesn't irritate them, so they are not tempted to touch it or pull it out of place, which could put them at risk from touching their face or limiting the mask's effectiveness.
