Lighting Technicians

Individuals who work behind the scenes of different kinds of productions including motion picture and television productions, stage plays and concerts to create lighting and special lighting effects that enhance the visual impact of a show. They set up, focus and operate light fixtures, control boards and other equipment; choose and locate lighting fixtures after consulting with the director to figure out what effects are wanted; use equipment such as flags, nets, scrims and filters to control the lighting to the stage or production area; and keep the lighting fixtures and other equipment in safe working condition. Included are gaffers who are members of the lighting crew.
