Definition
Individuals who study the organization, recombination, function, regulation and transmission of heritable information in biological organisms at all levels of complexity. Included are the study of Mendelian genetics, epigenetic phenomena, DNA repair and recombination, sex determination, genetic interactions between genomes and molecular evolution. Specialties include molecular genetics, microbial and eukaryotic genetics, animal genetics, plant genetics and human/medical genetics (which focuses on the medical applications of genetics such as clinical diagnosis, genetic engineering and therapy, transplantation and the study of genetic diseases and disabilities).
