Definition
An international athletic competition held in different locations every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games among athletes representing countries in the Western Hemisphere. The games are modeled on the Olympics and serve as Olympic qualifying events for some sports. Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to and publicize the events; provide information about competition schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
