Definition
Programs that conduct criminal background checks and provide certification, often referred to as good conduct letters, that an individual has no police record or has not been arrested for a specified type of crime. Traffic offenses are generally excluded. Police clearances issued by local law enforcement agencies are generally limited to arrests for local offenses. More extensive criminal history information may need to be obtained from state or other police agencies for this purpose.
