Resource Passports for Newborns

Programs that support the healthy development of very young children by providing information, incentives and rewards which encourage expectant and new parents to take advantage of existing community resources and engage in healthful behaviors. Incentives such as coupons and gift certificates are used to promote healthful behaviors such as having an alcohol and drug-free pregnancy, providing a smoke-free environment, breastfeeding, and reading or storytelling; and the use of community services such as prenatal care, childbirth classes, WIC programs, well baby checks, immunizations, early childhood development programs, recreational opportunities, faith-based activities and opportunities for cultural enrichment.
