Verbo-Tonal Instruction

Programs that teach people who have hearing impairments to communicate through an approach which makes use of sophisticated electronic amplification and vibro-tactile stimulation equipment to aid the individual to "sense sound" in order to develop language and speech. The individual is encouraged to use residual hearing, amplified by the equipment, in conjunction with a sense of touch which is stimulated by a wrist vibrator. The vibrations are felt at the same time the sounds are heard and seen. One of the objectives of this approach is to help people develop appropriate pitch, rhythm, timing and clarity in speech.
